The cisterns were used to collect rainwater which is soft water and it was piped into the wash room or to a third faucet on the kitchen sink and used for such things as washing hair, and laundry. The cistern and the well are now covered by dirt and grass, and are used today to supply water for the irrigation of Cistern Yard.
